Facilities & Operations, in conjunction with Florida Power and Light (FPL), will be performing a planned power shutdown servicing the Ashe Administration building starting on Friday, March 15 at 12:01 a.m. through Sunday, March 17. Services are scheduled to return to normal the evening of Sunday, March 17, and regular operations will resume on Monday, March 18.
This work is an effort to upgrade the power distribution system which includes storm emergency power connections. We strongly encourage that the Ashe Administration building be vacated by Thursday, March 14 at 5 p.m. Safety personnel will be present to ensure the building has been fully vacated and secured prior to the power shutdown.
We ask everyone to please make arrangements to prepare for this power shutdown. It is recommended to turn off computers, empty personal and/or departmental refrigerators, and prepare to work remotely on Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday. Facilities & Operations will have several technical team members on site to shut down building services prior to the power outage and then re-start after re-energizing.

In order to complete the upgrades, a temporary power shutdown must occur. The power shutdown at the Whitten Learning Center will commence on Thursday, March 14 at 8 p.m. through Friday, March 15 at 6 a.m.

In an effort to improve reliability and minimize power interruptions, Facilities & Operations partnered with Florida Power & Light (FPL) to upgrade components within the FPL vaults located at the Merrick building. The upgrades required a temporary power shutdown that was performed on Tuesday, March 12 at 11 p.m. through Wednesday, March 13 at 6 a.m. Due to unforeseen circumstances, FPL was unable to complete the work during this time. As such, a power shutdown at the Merrick building will be required starting on Wednesday, March 13 at 8 p.m. through Thursday, March 14 at 6 a.m.

Facilities & Operations, in conjunction with Miami-Dade Water and Sewer department, will be performing maintenance work to the water lines servicing Gables One Tower (GOT) on Saturday, March 2 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
This work will require a shutdown of the water and air conditioning systems for the entire building. As such, all faucets, bathrooms, and water fountains will be unavailable. We strongly encourage that the building remain vacated by all occupants until after the maintenance is completed. Facilities & Operations staff will be on site during the process to ensure all systems return to normal operations.
Services are anticipated to return by 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 2. However, a precautionary boil water notice will be in effect through Monday, March 4. Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer will conduct multiple water samplings and will advise when the boil water notice can be lifted. During this period, occupants should not use drinking fountains or sinks. Facilities & Operations will provide hand sanitizing products in all restrooms and kitchens. A final notice will be sent when the boil water notice has been lifted.

The building is scheduled to be operational early Saturday morning and cleared for re-entry by 8:00 am.

Facilities Operations and Planning has partnered with Accruent LLC, to conduct a Facility Condition Assessment of all buildings on the Coral Gables, Rosenstiel, Richmond, and Medical campuses.
Access to spaces will be provided by UM personnel during these walkthroughs and each team member will utilize a small digital camera to document the condition of the building and individual systems during the assessment. The Accruent and UM field assessment team will complete the building walkthroughs on weekdays and non-holidays following the schedules shown below:

UM’s Department of Facilities & Operations and the Office of Environmental Health and Safety have partnered with the Coral Gables Fire Department to conduct the annual fire system inspection for all buildings on the Coral Gables campus. These inspections will occur between May 28 through June 29, during regular business hours. No interruption to your business operations is expected during these inspections.
Facilities and Operations and Environmental Health and Safety personnel will accompany the Coral Gables Fire Inspector while they conduct the inspections. A separate communication will be distributed to college/business unit facility liaisons to confirm the scheduled dates and times for each building.

In an effort to improve service, reliability, and operations of Gables One Tower (GOT), Facilities Management will perform a domestic water shutdown to the building in order to complete necessary maintenance.
During the shutdown period, the air conditioning, cold and hot water, and restrooms will be out of service throughout GOT.
The shutdown is expected to last approximately 8 hours and will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 26.
Facilities technicians will be on-site to support this event and will inspect the building when the work is completed to ensure all systems are back to normal operations.

In an effort to improve reliability and minimize power interruptions at Gables One Tower (GOT), Facilities Operations & Planning has partnered with Florida Power & Light (FPL) to add an additional feeder that will supply alternate power to the facilities and allow power to be redistributed to GOT in the event that the main feeder suffers a power loss.
In order to complete the installation, a temporary power shutdown must occur for FPL to make the necessary connections. The temporary shutdown is expected to last approximately 4 hours and will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 13.
We advise individuals to turn-off personal electronics whenever possible to avoid any surges when power is restored. We will have several of our technical team members on site to shut down building services prior to the power outage and then re-start after re-energizing.
Tenants and employees will be required to vacate the building at 5:30 p.m. and will not be allowed in the building after this time. Safety personnel will be present to ensure the building has been fully vacated and secured.
The building is scheduled to be operational early Saturday morning and cleared for re-entry by 8am. Additional IT personnel will be onsite Monday morning for prompt response to any individual issues that may arise.
